This "madness" will only end when both sides are willing to enter into an honest discussion about what is truly necessary to preserve the ammendment that refers to armed militias and, at the same time, what is necessary to protect human beings (some of whom may wish not to be armed themselves) from the homicidal acting out of the undiagnosed/unrestrained/unincarcerated mentally disturbed and/or criminal. We must be willing and brave to tread into the grey area of this debate to arrive at fair and honest solutions as this is not a black and white issue.
Agreed... however, there are steps we can take now such as reauthorizing the assault weapons ban. One could argue that semi-automatic weapons such as the Glock 9 mentioned on these pages should be restricted as well. Being able to buy a gun on the Internet may be considered by some as a little too much freedom.
